Holy Spirit

From Awaken to the B.E.S.T. 9/14/16

Jesus said to His disciples, "nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for it I do not go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you." (John 16:7 Didache Bible)  The Holy Spirit dwells within us to help us in every way become who God created us to be.  St Cyril of Jerusalem taught that "the Spirit comes with the tenderness of a true friend and protector to save, to heal, to teach, to counsel, to strengthen, to console." (Quote from Your Life in The Holy Spirit by Alan Schreck)  May we spend time getting to know this "true friend" who is within us to help us in our daily lives!

Turn Around....Begin Again

Reflection Luke 13:22-30

"Not every one who says to me 'Lord, Lord' shall enter the kingdom of heaven..." (Matthew 7:21).  It is not enough to know about God, to know the scriptures, or to know the laws, but we will be judged on how we cooperated with the grace God gives us to love one another.  We will always have temptations to follow our passions - our desires to "make ourselves feel better" by doing things "our " way, but it is The Way of The Cross that will lead us to eternal life.  How will we respond next time we are tempted into our "pet sins" - our habitual sins?  Will we follow the same old path to sin and darkness or will we call upon the power of The Holy Spirit, the comforter, the advocate to give us the grace we need to turn around and strip ourselves of all that does not fit through the narrow gate?  "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me; and I give them eternal life..." (John 10:27) We do not walk alone!

Comparison robs us of our joy. Do not compare yourself to others - either as superior or inferior! We all have our gifts. do your best to discern where God wants you and what He wants from you. Give him your best trusting that He will do the rest! Peace

What Really Matters

Reflection: Luke 12:13-21

We don't know the time or the place we will be when God calls us home.  Our days are perfectly numbered in His providential timing.  We were created in His image and likeness, and we all have a role...a story in salvation history.  We impact the different generations of our families and communities with decisions and actions of our time here on earth.  The gifts we have are to be shared with others, the blessings we have are to be shared with others.  Sometimes it is "less costly" to write a check than to give of ourselves.  "Every one to whom much is given, of him will much be required." (Luke 12:48) Our Christian attitude should be one of love and mercy and our lives be of service to others.  It is by our love and service to others that people will come to know Jesus.  The things we have will pass away or will soon become obsolete, but it is the love in our souls we take with us.  Lord, help me to store up treasures of love and service and give of myself freely!
